My Everyday Skincare Routine as a Busy Mom

Skincare Basics for Busy Moms

April 16, 2020
Hey Friends, Hey and Happy Fri-yay Eve!

Today, I'm so excited to finally share my everyday skincare routine, a post LONGGGG overdue. My skin has come a long way and I am happy to say, besides any minor blemishes, my skin has been in the best shape that it has ever been. Three years ago, I experienced the most intense breakout episode with my skin. I literally hadn't had acne since I was 17 years old, and at the age of 31, my face had legit turned into a pepperoni pizza. I tried EVERYTHING! St. Ives, charcoal masks, witch hazel I mean the list goes on and on and nothing seemed to work. During that time, I stopped wearing make-up because I felt like between the make-up and my inflamed skin, nothing good would come from that combination. I was determined to get my skin back to the way it use to be. I mean come on, it's your face girl and there's no way to hide it unless you want to tap into your inner Jason or Michael Meyers as a side hustle and that wasn't an option (although highly considered lol).

God Always has a ram in the bush...

One day, I received an email from ULTA that would change my skin, my confidence, and my skincare routine for years to come. Ulta sent a free mini facial ad via email and I decided to go. It was there that I met my skincare goddess aka my esthetician Erin. Erin educated me on my skin during that mini facial and got me ALL the way together. I'd like to share my everyday skin routine and share some of my favorite Dermalogica products.

Good Skincare is Important.

I am a firm believer that one of the secrets to healthy and radiant skin is an excellent skincare routine. Carrying out a daily skincare regime with the right products will take your skin to the next level. Consistency is the key! Not only are the products you use important, how you apply and use them are just as important too. Small things like washing your face with warm water, using only a white or gray washcloth, (no dye comes out of these color washcloths) and changing your pillow case often will help your products work even harder to ensure that bright, glowy skin that you can be proud of.

My Skin Type:

Did you know that our skin inevitably changes a little bit as we age? I learned that once I got into my 30's, that's when estrogen levels start to dip, heralding sinking levels of skin-tightening collagen; an elastin and skin-plumping hyaluronic acid. Cell turnover slows too, and skin bounces back less easily from inflammation. My skin for the most part has always been combination skin. My forehead and nose have always been oily and everywhere else is normal. I've always experienced occasional breakouts, especially on my cheeks and around my chin, which left me with some acne scarring. I also have freckles and some redness. My skin routine has definitely helped with the latter of the two. If my skin has changed at all, I will say that I experience more infrequent breakouts and my skin is NOT as oily as it once was. Thank God!

My Skincare Routine:

Step 1 | Dermalogica Pre-Cleanse

This plant-based, vegan cleansing oil is light-weight and formulated with a blend of olive and kukui oils. This product is used right before cleansing my face. Purifying pores and deep cleaning residual products like make-up, sunscreen, and daily pollution build really gives my skin that first cleansing before going in with my skin wash.

Step 2 | Dermalogica Special Cleansing Gel

One thing I absolutely love about this cleanser is that it's SOAP-FREE! ( I know right) and a little bit goes a long way (dime size). This cleanser is lightweight and is mild enough for everyday use. It's not drying and the mint and lavender extracts featured in the cleanser leave my skin refreshed, smooth, and clean.

Step 3 | Daily Superfoliant or Microfoliant

After I cleanse my face I go right into exfoliating my skin. The microfoliant is a rice-based powder which contains green tea, ginko, and colloidal oatmeal. This exfoliant calms inflammation while also helping to clean any clogged pores. The superfoliant helps fight pollutants that are in the air. This exfoliant contains black charcoal which deep cleanses and detoxifies pores.

Step 4 | Multi-Active Toner

This is my favorite part of my skin routine! This is literally a refreshing spritz for the face. This applies the final touches to my entire skin routine and helps to absorb moisture. Leaving the skin hydrated, fresh, and conditioned.

Step 5 | Skin Smoothing Cream

The formula of this moisturizer has the ability to reduce water loss, smooth, and hydrate the skin all at once. The smell is light, almost non-existent, and shields the skin from harmful effects from stress and leaves it with a moisturized and supple complexion.

Step 6 | BioLumin-C Vitamin C Eye Serum

I want to start out by saying that this little baby is worth $70 and I have been able to utilize it because I was provided with a sample to use. I love it! This is new to my skincare routine, but because I used it and absolutely love it, I still want to share. This eye serum treats fine lines, wrinkles, and discoloration. I tend to get raccoon eyes sometimes so this has been golden for me. Packed with Vitamin-C, the eye serum gives the eye all the hydration, reduces puffiness, and illuminates the skin under the eye.

I literally do the same routine before bed (well at least I try my best to). I won't lie, sometimes, depending on how intense my day was, I'll apply my pre-cleanse and get a ponds wipe and call it a night (I hope Erin doesn't see this lol). Being home and Quarantined has definitely helped me to be more consistent with my night time routine though :-) .

Before you say anything... I know these products are NOT the cheapest products, but they're worth the investment. The plus side is that they also offer 30-day skin sets and kits so you're able to try out the products in travel size before committing to the full investment. I purchased the travel sizes several times until I could afford the full-size products. There are several products that cater to specific skin types that you can order on your own, but if you have an ULTA near you, go visit (when they open back up) OR check them out online. My recommendation for purchasing the products would be to start with either the Back to the Basics set or The Normal/Oily Skin starter set.

Thanks so much for stopping by today friends! I hope this answers a ton of your questions about what I use day and night or this post has inspired you to start a consistent skincare routine to help you maintain a healthy glow and to supply your skin with the nutrients it needs. Be sure to leave any questions or comments you may have in the comment section.

XoXo,

Angie
